You are here: Software LAN-Explorer FAQ
1.0 How will the PCs/Shares be determined by the LAN-Explorer?
LAN-Explorer determines all PCs by a so called browsing-list. The browsing-list is a list which contains all PCs in the network. The list will be refreshed and send to other PCs cyclically. That means it is possible that not all PCs are immediatly determined by the LAN-Explorer. In such case, please try it again later and complement the current network list.

1.1 Why are not all computers found in the network?
This will often happen after a reboot. The only option is to wait. In the Windows network, there is a list of computers which can be found in the network. Every computer gets after certain intervals the list depending on the network size, existing domain controller aso.

1.2 The shares was found but starting the download is not possible?
If a share is visible, but you can not access to the share it is possible that you don´t have any access rights to the share or to the directory. You can check it if you can access to the share via the network neighborhood. If you can access to the share and a download via the network neighborhood works without any problems it will be possible with the LAN-Explorer too.

All resources which can be accessed by the network neighborhood are handled identically by the LAN-Explorer.

1.3 Why does creating the network list takes so much time?
LAN-Explorer uses the Microsoft API internally. There is unfortunately no way to speed up the listing, because Microsoft only provides certain programming functions.

1.4 Shares/PCs were not detected?
To detect Shares/PCs on Windows 7 and Windows Vista the "Network discovery" must be enabled (Can be found in "Network and Sharing Center"). On all other supported operating systems the "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" must be installed and activated. This option can be found in the "Properties" of the LAN-Connection.
